Every Day Matters!
This semester, we’re thrilled to launch a fun and rewarding way to celebrate 100% attendance! Every fortnight, students who have attended school every day will be entered into a random prize draw at parade, with 10 x $5 tuckshop vouchers.
At the beginning of each new fortnight, the attendance count resets—so even if a student missed a day due to illness, they’ll have a brand-new chance to be in the next draw.
Let’s keep showing up, supporting each other, and celebrating the little wins that make a big difference!
Burnside Bonanza Day!
This term, we’re excited to introduce a brand-new celebration event: the Burnside Bonanza—a fun-filled reward day recognising students who consistently demonstrate our school’s positive expectations through the “Are You on TRACK?” initiative!
🌟 TRACK Expectations:
- Thoughtful
- Respectful
- Accountable
- Cooperative
- Kind
🎟️ How to Earn Your Way In:
Students will earn On TRACK tickets by showing these values in action. To gain entry to the Burnside Bonanza, students need to collect 3 tickets in each TRACK category
🎉 Bonus Bonanza!
Students who go above and beyond by earning 5 or more tickets in each category will unlock access to the Bonus Bonanza—an extra special school-based event with exciting activities (details coming soon!).
🎈 What’s in Store?
The Bonanza will be a day of fun, games, and celebration, run by our amazing staff to reward the incredible effort and behaviours our students show every day.
Let’s stay on TRACK and make this term one to celebrate!

BASES news
Supporting Burnside Students to Stay on TRACK
At Burnside, we’re proud to offer a consistent, school-wide social-emotional learning program that helps our students build essential life skills for both school and beyond. Each week, students participate in Yarning Circle Lessons, which explicitly teach the strategies that help them stay on TRACK—our acronym for key values and behaviours that support learning and wellbeing.
With whole-school commitment, every staff member and student engages with TRACK lessons daily, and weekly sessions build on these foundations with deeper skill development.
What students learn:
- Behavioural Expectations:
Children learn our school-wide rules and individual classroom guidelines to help them feel safe, respected, and ready to learn in every setting.
- Respectful Relationships Education:
Our program includes curriculum content aligned with national guidelines, covering topics like inclusion, belonging, and gender and racial equity.

- Zones of Regulation:
Students explore how to identify and manage their emotions using practical tools to build resilience, self-awareness, and self-control.

- Burnside Toolbox:
This includes calming strategies such as “Take Five,” breathing techniques, “Have a Break” cards, sensory tools, and social stories like Donkey in the Well and Nails in the Fence. We also use helpful reminders like “Just keep swimming” or “Don’t poke the bear” to support positive choices.

- Communication & Relationships:
Students practice using safe and kind words and build their own Fab Five—trusted adults or peers they can turn to when they need support.
These strategies help equip our students to navigate everyday challenges and manage big emotions in healthy, constructive ways. We’re especially proud to see these tools being used successfully throughout the school day and at home.
If you’d like to learn more or continue these practices at home, please reach out to your child’s teacher—we love working in partnership with families to support every child’s growth.

Chappy Chat
Hello Amazing Burnsiders,
Term 3 is in full swing and I can’t believe we are halfway through the year, with so many exciting things still to happen.
This term I am keen to be connecting with some of our ‘green thumb’ students as we start up a Garden Club at first break on a Thursday. We will not only be having fun planting different plants – herbs, vegies and flowers, but also learning about soil health, the right time to plant, as well as nurturing our garden to harvest and eat!
In my new workplan, I am also looking forward to getting into some of the classes to help with students that need a little extra focus and to see them flourish not only educationally but also, more importantly, in their own wellbeing!
This term we are also going to be gearing up for one of the most exciting events on the school calendar – the School Colour Fun Run fundraiser, which is going to kick off a little earlier this year at the end of term. We are planning all the same fun challenges and milestones with plenty of teacher/staff colour soakings along the way.
This year, to gain some extra vital funds, we are looking to get some local businesses involved by sponsoring a Colour. In turn, these businesses will be advertised in all our event promotions. If you own a business that might be interested in sponsorship, please get in contact with me for more details. Please email me at chaplain@burnsidess.eq.edu.au or text me on 0466 334 781
I would also like to remind everyone that we operate a Meal Bank at the school with the kind assistance of Urban Angels. If you ever are in a spot where you could do with some extra meal support for your families please reach out to either myself or the main office and we can hook you up with some meals.
Have an awesome Term.
Love & Peace
Chappy Paul
