Parent-Teacher Interviews
The online bookings system for Term 1 Parent/Teacher interviews is open and I encourage all parents /carers to schedule a time to discuss your child’s learning and social development. These sessions will be held on Tuesday 1st April in your child’s classroom.
Our teachers put significant thought and time into planning for these progress meetings and it is a valuable opportunity for you both to spend some uninterrupted time discussing your child’s learning needs.
A reminder to book in for Parent teacher interviews in week 10 - Tuesday 1st April (beginning at 3pm – 5.40pm) Please book in as soon as possible as bookings will close Friday 31st March 2025
QParents
Queensland State Schools are transitioning to online permissions for excursions via the QParents app. We believe that digital consent for excursions, SRS, and Third Party Consent will benefit everyone by eliminating the need for paper-based forms to be printed, distributed, signed, and returned. If you require an invitation code, please contact the office.
We understand that everyone has a busy schedule, and we hope that by moving our services online, we can make it easier for you to complete and return permission forms.
End of Term
We have some fun, big ticket events coming up to end the term – Cross Country and Easter Hat Parade. Parents and carers are most welcome to join us for these events to finalise a successful first term at Burnside State School. I hope our Year 5 team have a fantastic time next week at Boulder Creek on their three-day camp.
NAPLAN
NAPLAN testing has now been completed for 2025. Well done to all our Year 3 and Year 5 students who put their very best efforts into NAPLAN testing. Results will be available to parents towards the end of Term 2.
TC – Alfred
Well! What an interesting time Tropical Cyclone Alfred gave Queensland! I would like to extend a huge thank you to our community and staff during this time. During these times of uncertainty, we exhaust all avenues to keep everyone informed with the most recent information. Facebook, email and School Stream were our main points of communication, however preparations for the weather event, our school server was shutdown, leaving us to rely on staff who had power and internet connects for Facebook and School Stream apps until the effects of the tropical low had passed.
School Communications:
EMAIL:- Please ensure that you have your family’s most current contact details up to date with the school for these unusual events. Class teachers can be emailed regarding individual student needs or to make an appointment.
YEAR LEVEL OVERVIEWS:- These were provided each term to provide a snapshot of what units of work students will be learning.
NEWSLETTER:- Our school Newsletter is only issued twice a term and generally a source of celebrations.
ONLINE APPS:- Facebook advertises and captures current events; School Stream is the same as Facebook plus the issuing of year/class specific letters regarding camps and excursions.

Deputy News
What an amazing term we've had so far at Burnside State School! As we head towards the Easter holidays, I want to encourage our students to stay positive and keep coming to school every single day until Friday, 4th April, our last day of Term 1, 2025. Let's finish this term strong!
Mornings before school
Supervision begins in the under covered areas from 8.15am each morning. The under covered area outside the tuckshop is now for students for Year 2,5 and 6 students . The area which was formally the Junior under covered area will now be for Prep, Year 1,3 and 4’s. This move is designed for students to be closer to their allocated classrooms… This transition will be beginning immediately.
On Friday 4th April we will be having an Easter Hat Parade for our Prep – 3 students from 9am (till approx. 10am). Students will be parading around the hall in their class whilst displaying their beautiful creations (Easter Hats). Students can design their hats at home, if you are unable to do this please contact your class teacher. Please come and join us for a morning of fun!

Hey Brilliant Burnsiders,
Well, what a crazy couple of weeks we’ve had… an elusive cyclone followed by flood levels Nambour hasn’t seen since I was in Grade 10 - 1983 Wet Wednesday!!!
I hope and pray all of our Burnside families got through it all safely. I know a few family businesses had some damage in our school community and I hope that they will get the assistance they need to get back on their feet swiftly.
We truly live in an amazing community of families and individuals that do band together to help out one another… I hope we get to see it more often and not just when we are faced with large crisis situations. If you don’t know your immediate neighbours two houses either side of you and across the street, introduce yourself and get to know them. I have a couple of beautiful elderly neighbours, who we have a great rapport with. If I don’t see any movement from their house within a couple of days, I make a habit of knocking on the door, just to make sure things are OK… and they really appreciate it. So sometimes it’s the little things that make all the difference.
I also want to give a shoutout to an amazing local community group, APEX Nambour, that have generously helped our school by donating funds over the years for various subsidies and events, they truly are an amazing organisation. So, next time you’re at an event at the showgrounds - Nambour Show, Garden Expo, Caravan & Camping Expo, support them by grabbing a burger from their tuckshop stall, as a lot of the money they raise goes back into the community.
Hope the Year 5’s have an amazing time on Camp… I might even get a chance to sneak up to see them!!!
Remember, if parents or families ever what to reach out for any support, please get in contact with me by email - chaplain@burnsidess.eq.edu.au or on the school number on Thursdays & Fridays or by seeing me around the school (breaky club or parade, etc). Access to our Urban Angels Meal Bank is every weekday via myself or the admin staff.
Love & Peace
