Principal’s Messages
It’s hard to believe the term is coming to a close already! I am so proud of the hard work, creativity, and kindness our students have shown, and I thank our dedicated staff and supportive families for making this term a memorable one.
This term, we saw our Year 6’s camp in Currimundi, our Year 5’s flooded out at Boulder Creek (looking forward to part 2 next term) and our Year 4’s enjoying an overnight camp at Marantha-Wappa Falls.
We celebrated Under 8’s day and our years 3-6 students completed their sports carnival.
I’d like to wish all of our families a safe and happy holiday break as it quickly approaches and we all look forward to another exciting term of learning when we return in July.
Positive Communication at Burnside SS
At Burnside State School, we believe that effective and ongoing communication between home and school is essential for supporting your child’s learning and wellbeing. We use a variety of communication methods to ensure every family feels informed, involved, and valued within our school community.
Your child’s teacher is the person who works with and knows your student the best. They are the first point of contact for any questions or concerns regarding your child’s learning or wellbeing. To support our dedicated teachers in providing the best learning experiences for your child, we kindly ask that you remember the following:
Face-to-Face Meetings:
Teachers need time to prepare and plan engaging lessons for your children. If you would like to meet in person, please make an appointment to ensure the conversation is meaningful and uninterrupted.
Email Communication:
Emails are a convenient way to stay in touch and allow for ongoing dialogue outside of school hours. Please note that teachers may not be able to respond immediately during key learning times but will reply as soon as possible.
Parent-Teacher Interviews:
Scheduled early next term, these structured meetings provide a valuable opportunity to discuss your child’s progress, set goals, and address any concerns.
Newsletters:
Issued in Week 2 and Week 9 each term, our newsletters give you an overview of what’s happening at school—highlighting upcoming events at the start of the term and celebrating achievements as we approach the end.
Digital Platforms:
School Stream and our official Facebook page provide easy access to announcements, homework, and resources, ensuring information is always up-to-date and accessible. This is particularly important for messages at short notice, such as cancellations due to weather events.
Inclusive and Respectful Dialogue:
We are committed to fostering an environment where all families feel welcome and supported. Our communication aims to be inclusive, respectful, and focused on partnership.
Together We Make a Difference! By using a combination of these methods, we can meet the diverse needs of our families and encourage ongoing, positive parent engagement. Thank you for your support in helping us create a strong and supportive school community.
Toilet Etiquette Reminder for Our School Community
We’d like to take a moment to remind all families about the importance of respecting our school’s shared spaces, particularly our toilet facilities.
Recently, there have been incidents where students have left toilets in an unacceptable condition. Our dedicated cleaners have had to deal with challenging and unpleasant messes, which is both unhygienic and disrespectful to those who work hard to keep our school clean. Maintaining clean and respectful toilet facilities is important for everyone in our school community. We kindly ask parents to encourage your child to remember these key points:
Flush after use: Always flush the toilet to keep it clean for the next person.
Use toilet paper properly: Only use what you need and make sure it goes into the toilet, not on the floor.
Wash hands thoroughly: Use soap and water every time to prevent the spread of germs.
Dispose of rubbish correctly: Paper towels and sanitary products belong in the bins, not the toilet.
Leave the area tidy: If you make a mess, please clean up after yourself as a courtesy to others.

Halfway Through the Year – Celebrating Success and Looking Ahead
Can you believe we are already nearly halfway through the 2025 school year? This milestone is a wonderful opportunity to reflect on your child’s growth and celebrate their progress with the first report card of the year. We are incredibly proud of all students’ achievements and look forward to supporting their continued development in the second half of 2025.
Term 2 has been filled with engaging learning experiences and memorable events, and Term 3 is shaping up to be just as rewarding. While report cards provide a valuable snapshot of your child’s academic progress, it’s important to remember that they cannot capture everything that makes your child unique and amazing.
Prep Enrolments for 2026
Our Prep transition program for 2026 will still be underway, and we will begin visiting local Kindergartens to meet our future Burnside Kids. More information will be coming out in near future about the enrolment process as well as transition events.
3-6 Sports Day
Well done to all our students who participated in the 3-6 sports day this week. It was so amazing to see the team spirit and support each student was giving to their friends and team mates. Age champion announcements will be made in Week 10. We will let families know in the coming days.

ATTENDANCE MATTERS
Every Day Counts – Let’s Work Together on Attendance
At our school, we believe that every day makes a difference. Regular attendance is key to student learning and long-term academic success. Each day away from school can impact your child’s progress, and that’s why we are committed to working closely with our families to support the best possible attendance for every student.
We understand that there are times when students need to be away – whether due to illness, family circumstances, or other challenges. Our priority is to support you through these times and find positive solutions together.
If your child is experiencing ongoing health issues or any other challenges affecting their attendance, we encourage you to contact us. Our admin team is here to help arrange a meeting or a phone call to create a plan that supports your child’s learning while addressing their needs.
By working together, we can ensure that every student has the opportunity to thrive. Let’s make every day count.

Report Cards
As we approach the midpoint of the year, it’s a valuable time to reflect on your child’s learning journey so far. At Burnside State School, our report cards are designed not only to highlight academic progress but also to recognise the effort and determination students bring to their learning. While academic achievement matters, we know that consistent effort, curiosity, and a positive attitude are just as important in laying the foundation for lifelong success. Our reporting process aims to capture both what students have accomplished and how they have approached their learning, celebrating growth in every form.
This semester, all Queensland state schools are using a new standardised scale for reporting effort and behaviour. These ratings now appear clearly on the front page of your child’s report card and aim to give a consistent message across schools. Report cards will be emailed at the end week 10. If you have any queries, please feel free to discuss further with your child’s classroom teacher.

Kind regards,
Melissa Nolan
Sports News
Term 2 saw lots of students from our upper years travelling away to play at various sporting events such as the Karen Murphy Challenge and the Hinterland League Tag Competition. It’s so great to see their smiling faces during these events, creating memorable moments.
On Wednesday 18th June, we held an extremely successful Athletics Day for the year 3-6s. Well done to all our students who participated. It was so amazing to see the team spirit and support each student was giving to their friends and team mates. Our Age champions will be awarded their medallions at a parade next week, the last week of school for the term. More information will come out advising when this will be taking place.
